HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE FOUND THE RIGHT HOUSE – A FEW WAYS
After some research, open homes and browsing you may have some properties in mind. Here are some simple ways of how to know if you have found the right house.
Affordable – if the property is not in your price margin, drop it. So many people hold onto this notion that the right house sits just outside their price cap. Sorry to go back to the relationship example, but it is similar to always desiring what we can’t have. Hence, have a budget, stick to it, don’t even bother looking outside that price cap unless you know you can afford it.
You felt great when you first saw it and felt the same when you walked away – first impressions can actually be really important, but as I have said countless times, lasting impressions are far more so. If you first saw the property and were impressed or excited and you maintained a level of excitement or joy once you had inspected the property, that is a good sign.
Flaws are superficial – every single property is flawed. You won’t find the perfect one. But if those flaws are superficial, or to put it another way, you can overlook them, it is a good sign. There is a difference between flaws that ruin a property (such as a collapsing balcony) and flaws that can be fixed or don’t matter (like a lack of kitchen cabinets or a poorly painted room).
Red Flags – the final advice I can give, is be strict with red flags. If you have a family and need to be close to public transport, shops, schools, prioritise these things. If you planned for a master bedroom with en suite then find that. Be realistic with red flags but decide on them first and then stick to them.
